Broncos alum Simon Fletcher, one of the team’s all-time sack leaders, was inducted last month into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2025.
Fletcher played his entire 11-year NFL career with the Broncos after being a second-round pick of the team in the 1985 Draft. He acknowledges the significance of this Hall of Fame induction.
“I was fortunate to be named to the team’s Ring of Fame in 2016 and be listed among some of the greatest Broncos to ever play,” says the 63-year-old Fletcher. “This Hall of Fame honor covers the entire state of Colorado, a state which quickly adopted me and my daughter Ashley back in 1985. Now, I am counted among the best state-wide athletes in every single sport and that is quite an honor.’
Fletcher was born in Bay City (Tx) and he stayed in his home state and played his collegiate ball at the University of Houston.
“The impressive thing about this Hall of Fame honor is that those inducted are not just collegiate or professional players,” says Fletcher. “It’s also about great coaches and great administrators. It’s a good feeling to be counted among these exceptional men and women.”
Fletcher acknowledges the help of the late Broncos owner Pat Bowlen as well as former head coach Dan Reeves, who died in 2022, for helping him make the transition from college to the NFL.
“My journey in Denver was made easier,” says Fletcher “because we had an owner then in Pat Bowlen who was a player’s owner. He was in our team offices nearly every day that he wasn’t out on the road assisting in league business. He always was looking to help the players on the team. I also recall the first day I showed up in Denver and Coach Reeves greeted me for a meeting. I could tell from the outset this was an organization that cared as much about family as it did about football. I could not have been in a better situation.”
We at NFL Alumni are pleased that our brother Simon Fletcher finally made it to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. He deserves his status as one of the Broncos all-time great defensive players along with Randy Gradishar, Steve Atwater, John Lynch, Tom Jackson and many others who wore Denver’s’ orange and navy uniforms.
