Traditional Opener In Canton Headlines Hall Of Fame Weekend

The 2023 preseason schedule begins next Thursday (August 3) when the Browns and Jets take the field at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton during the annual Enshrinement Weekend.

The Browns and Jets were selected for this game because they have alumni who are members of the 2023 Hall of Fame Class. Former Browns tackle Joe Thomas, who played an NFL record 10,363 consecutive plays during an 11-year career in nearby Cleveland, will be enshrined in his first year of eligibility. The Jets’ Darrelle Revis also is a first-ballot Hall of Famer after playing eight seasons at cornerback for the Jets. Joe Klecko, the only player in NFL history who was voted to the Pro Bowl from all three defensive line positions, is being inducted as a senior candidate. Klecko retired after the 1988 season and had to wait 35 years for his Hall of Fame candidacy.

The Jets have not been in this preseason opener since 1992 while the Browns last began their schedule in Canton in 1999.

The 32 teams all will play the following weekend (Aug 10-13). The complete 2023 preseason schedule is here.

Few of us enjoyed playing in preseason games during our careers but we all know how important these games were to some of our teammates surviving final roster cuts.

We at NFL Alumni wish all our active NFL brothers a safe and healthy preseason during the next few weeks.
