NFL Alum Quintin Demps Joins Circle Of College Head Coaches

Judson University is a small, 110-year-old private college in Elgin (IL). This season for the first time it has an NFL alum as its head football coach.

Quintin Demps, who played 10 seasons (2008-2017) for five NFL teams, was promoted last February to his first head coaching job. He had served as safeties coach for the school last season and officials there knew the type of leader the 38-year-old Demps is.

“Coach Demps has proven to be a highly impactful and valuable member of our Judson community,” says Athletic Director Rick Williams. “His work as defensive backs coach reached far beyond the confines of the football field. Many of our athletes attest to the positive, influential role he serves in their lives.”

Demps is a Texas native who stayed in-state and attended the University of Texas-El Paso. He was the Eagles’ fourth-round pick in the 2008 Draft and later played for the Texans, Chiefs, Giants and Bears.

“I was super excited to be named head coach and excited to climb the ranks,” Demps recently told Jim Gehman of PhiladelphiaEagles.com. “I’ve pulled up coaching stuff from Andy ReidGary KubiakTom Coughlin and John Fox. I’ve pulled from every single one of them, but I’ll be myself within the parameters of the program.

“I’m from Texas and football is how we survive. This is my fourth year coaching either in high school or college, so I’ve just kept climbing the ladder. I knew at some point that I needed my own territory and I’m excited to finally get that.”

We at NFL Alumni also are excited that one of our brothers has a new head coaching collegiate assignment. We wish Quintin Demps and his Judson community much success.
