The league office has added to the Pittsburgh motif of this week’s Draft by inviting many NFL alumni with Steel City and Pennsylvania connections to participate in the event.
Five alums, who played for the University of Pittsburgh, will be featured in activities on Friday night. They will announce their former NFL team’s selection on national television at Draft headquarters. Those Pitt Panthers include Pro Football Hall of Famers (and Pennsylvania natives) Curtis Martin, Tony Dorsett, and Jimbo Covert. Other Pitt grads on the scene will be Andy Lee and Bill Maas.
Additional presenters at the podium whose roots are in The Keystone State include: Matt Millen, Pat McAfee, Marques Colston, John Kuhn and Paul Posluszny.
Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerome Bettis and John Stallworth, who were born out of state but adopted by Steelers fans during their playing days, also will be comfortable in the surroundings on-site at the Draft.
It may be difficult for some of us who never wore the Black & Gold to accept the heavy Pittsburgh influence this weekend. However, we should take comfort in knowing it all will be for the benefit of making our great sport even more popular than it already is.
