NFL alum Brandon Short was emcee at the annual Vince Lombardi Gala for the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center in Washington last month.
Short, 48, has no problem speaking in front of a large crowd. The Penn State graduate has had a successful business career in international real estate transactions. He currently is Portfolio Manager at PGIM Real Estate in New York. He leads all aspects of the firm’s private real estate funds’ strategy and management. Short also directs the funds’ East Coast investment and management activities.
Short played linebacker at Penn State from 1996-99. He and his linebacker teammate LaVar Arrington were the first duo from the same school to be nominated for the prestigious Rotary Lombardi Trophy presented annually to the best college lineman or linebacker. Short also was the first Nittany Lion to be elected captain of the football team in both his junior and senior years.
Short was the Giants fourth round draft pick in 2000 and played four years in New York. He signed with the Panthers and played two seasons (2004-05) in Carolina before returning to the Giants for one last year in 2006.
Short currently serves on the Board of Trustees at his college alma mater and also is a member of the Penn State Endowment and Investment Council. He clearly is putting to good use the MBA degree he earned in 2010 from the Columbia University Business School.
Short, unfortunately, also has had tragedy in his personal life. In 2021, his 26-year old daughter Karli and her unborn child were killed in a senseless act of gun violence. He and his wife Mahreen launched the “Karli Short Better Tomorrow” Scholarship Fund in her honor in his hometown of McKeesport (PA). The Fund supports students who have been affected by gun violence and provides them with the tools and support to leverage their own talents to help create the “better tomorrows” that Karli would have wanted them to have.
We at NFL Alumni salute Brandon Short and wish him continued success in his personal and professional life.
