NFL Alum Mike McGlynn Known For Blocking AND Catching Skills

Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice holds the NFL record for Most Career Receptions with 1,549.

Seven-year NFL alum Mike McGlynn trails Rice by only 1,548.

McGlynn, who earlier this month was named head coach at Lake Minneola High School in Lake County (FL), will be able to impress his new players by telling them about his one NFL career catch.

McGlynn was drafted by the Eagles as an offensive lineman out of the University of Pittsburgh in 2008. He subsequently played for the Bengals, Colts, Chiefs and Saints before retiring with 61 NFL starts after the 2015 season.

A dream of most offensive linemen simply is to touch the ball in a game. Not only did McGlynn touch a deflected pass while protecting Eagles QB Kevin Kolb in a 2010 game against the Packers, he caught the deflection and was credited with a one-yard gain for his effort. Legends are made from such heroics!

Since retiring from the NFL, the Ohio native has given back to the sport by serving as offensive coordinator and assistant coach in several programs across Central Florida. This Lake Minneola assignment is his second opportunity as a high school head coach. He already has met with his new players and their parents and, according to school principal William Roberts, McGlynn has received favorable reviews.

“Coach McGlynn is in it for the right reasons, the support of our students and helping these young athletes reach their full potential,” says Roberts. “We could not be more pleased with him.”

McGlynn wisely is going to use his collegiate and NFL experience to assist his players and coaching staff.

“I got to play with some of the best men as teammates and was coached by some of the greatest leaders,” McGlynn explains. “My goal is to utilize the game of football as a vehicle to develop and educate the next generation of young men towards achieving their goals. I look forward to serving this school and the entire community.”

We at NFL Alumni wish only the best for the new head coach. We congratulate him and all you alumni who are coaching on the high school level for your dedication and service.
