Brent Qvale Was Stood Up On Draft Day But Still Had Productive Career

NFL alum Brent Qvale was dressed fashionably in a tuxedo when he received a phone call after the 2014 Draft ended.

He had not been selected but the Jets wanted to sign him to a rookie free agent contract.

“My friend was getting married on the third day of the Draft that year,” Qvale recently told Jim Gehman of NYJETS.COM. “I was in the wedding party with a few of my friends and we all were waiting for our names to be called in those final rounds. It was only after the Draft that I got my phone call and, ultimately, that’s when I became a Jet.”

Qvale’s six-year career as an offensive lineman with the Jets was eventful if only for the fact that he had three different head coaches, five different offensive coordinators and six different offensive line or assistant line coaches. He spent his first season on the team’s practice squad after suffering a concussion in his rookie training camp.

Qvale’s unsettled career with the Jets ended when he signed with the Texans for his final year in the league in 2020.

Fortunately, while he was still with the Jets, the North Dakota native and his wife Melissa started  “Q Properties”, a small real estate company in his college town of Lincoln, Nebraska.

“We’ve grown it during recent years,” Qvale says. “We buy and rent houses. We also now are building houses to sell. I’ve learned more about housing than I ever thought I would. It’s been interesting. I had no idea it was going to turn into full time profession, but that’s where we are right now. We like having control and a flexible schedule. It’s our business so if something must be done, it’s going to be Mellissa or I to do it.”

We at NFL Alumni wish the Qvale’s much success with their real estate venture. Brent Qvale never shied away from challenges during his college days at Nebraska nor his years in the NFL. We are confident that the same work ethic now will continue to carry him through his post-playing career.
