The NFL Player Care Foundation (PCF) continues as a vital source for programs and financial assistance to help alumni improve their quality of life. The PCF was established in 2007 and the NFL Alumni Association is pleased to be an original member of its Board of Directors. It is a responsibility that I as Alumni President personally take very seriously. I plan to join the other members of the board at the quarterly meeting of the PCF this weekend in Philadelphia.

The PCF has distributed $11.5 million in emergency grants to 988 alumni or their families for hardships such as medical, housing and family funerals. The Foundation also assists players with medical needs through resources such as its Joint Replacement Program which pays to those who have medical insurance a maximum of $5,250 for co-pays and costs directly related to the surgery. If an alumnus is not covered by medical insurance, he may qualify for financial assistance up to the total cost of the replacement surgery.

The Alumni Association also financially supports the PCF’s series of Healthy Body & Mind health screenings for retired players. These free screenings annually are conducted around the country, including in Canton during Hall of Fame Weekend and in the city where the Super Bowl is played. There is a screening in Philadelphia this Saturday (November 5) and in Houston, home of Super Bowl LI, on February 1-3, 2017.
