DeRon Jenkins Has Built A Second Career… And Many Homes As Well

Former cornerback DeRon Jenkins (pictured above) learned from some excellent head coaches during his years (1996-2001) in the League.  He was drafted by the Ravens under Ted Marchibroda and finished his career playing for Jeff Fisher with the Titans.

Now, nearly two decades after he left the field, Jenkins in his second career as a licensed general contractor has a new appreciation for the head coach’s role.

“There are so many things and so many people involved in building a house,” Jenkins says. “It’s truly teamwork that is required when pulling together a project. I’m managing, scheduling construction workers, and meeting with people to ultimately accomplish a common goal.  As contractor, I‘m ultimately responsible for everything and everybody.  If everything goes well, you look toward the coach.”

Jenkins has spent most of his post-NFL years working and building in the Nashville area.

“I renovated the first house I bought for myself many years ago,” Jenkins explains.  “After my football career, I still had the passion to renovate and to make something old look beautifully new again. I love Nashville so I decided my ultimate mission was to transform Nashville one house at a time.” Jenkins made such a huge impact in Tennessee that two years ago he was asked to co-host the popular “Flip or Flop Nashville” show on HGTV.  He and a real estate agent-friend find homes to purchase and renovate before reselling. HGTV cameras follow the process from beginning to end.

NFL alumnus DeRon Jenkins has been a success in two fairly different fields. We at NFL Alumni congratulate him for his accomplishments both on the field and outside football.
