Breaking News: Five NFL Alumni Elected To Black College Football Hall of Fame
Coy Bacon, Greg Coleman, Jimmie Giles, Winston Hill, and Roynell Young Headline 2021 BCFHOF Class
The Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF) today announced its 2021 Class and the new group includes five outstanding alumni from distinguished schools.
Your five fellow NFL alumni who will be inducted in June, 2021 into the BCFHOF are:
- DE Coy Bacon from Jackson State who will be inducted posthumously
- P Greg Coleman from Florida A&M
- TE Jimmie Giles form Alcorn State
- T Winston Hill from Texas Southern who will be inducted posthumously
- DB Roynell Young from Alcorn State
Greg Coleman, who was a 14th round draft choice of the Bengals in 1976, enjoyed a 12-year NFL career. He played with the Browns, Vikings and the Washington Football Team. Jimmie Giles also had a long NFL career after being selected by the Oilers in the third round of the 1977 Draft. He played 13 seasons in the NFL with the Oilers, Buccaneers, Lions and Eagles. Roynell Young followed Giles at Alcorn State and was a fourth round draft choice of the Eagles in 1980. He played his entire nine-season career in Philadelphia.
Sadly, Coy Bacon and Winston Hill will be inducted posthumously next year into the BCFHOF. Bacon, who died at age 66 in 2008, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cowboys in 1967. He was a three-time Pro Bowler who played for the Rams, Chargers, Bengals, and the Washington Football team during a 14-year career. Hill died in 2016 at age 74. He spent 14 seasons with the Jets and protected QB Joe Namath while blocking for RBs Matt Snell and Emerson Boozer on the Super Bowl III Championship team. He was an 11th round draft pick in 1963.
The Class of 2021 also includes 81-year old legendary Coach Willard Bailey who took his Virginia Union Panthers to the Division II playoffs five straight years (1979-83). He also coached at Norfolk State, St. Paul’s (VA), and Virginia-Lynchburg.
The Black College Football Hall of Fame was started in 2009 by NFL alumni James (Shack) Harris and Doug Williams. The Hall honors players, coaches, and contributors from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The 2021 Class will be honored at the BCFHOF Induction Ceremony and Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 in Atlanta.
In related news, the 2021 BCFHOF Classic featuring Grambling State vs Tennessee State will be played September 5 in the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
We at NFL Alumni congratulate all six new honorees (and their families) and look forward to attending the formal induction in June in Atlanta.
