Central Florida Chapter Project Touch-Down

In Partnership with One Heart for Women and Children

ABOUT ONE HEART FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN: One Heart’s mission is to provide the necessary resources for families as they transition through and overcome varying hardships of daily living in the greater Central Florida Area. They partner with many of Central Florida’s resources to educate, empower, and mentor men, women, and children. Working as a 100% volunteer organization they provide such things as life skills and parenting classes, youth , drug and alcohol prevention, along with clothing, personal hygiene essentials, food and school supplies


Date: Saturday August 12th, 2017

Time: 11:00 – 3:30 (Bus departure 10:30)

Location: One Heart for Woman and Children; 2040 N. Rio Grande Ave. Orlando, FL  32804

Estimated Number of Volunteers: 30-35

  • Mike Attardi – L.A. Raiders (Also was the President of the NFL Alumni Central Florida Chapter last year)
  • Seneca McMillan – Green Bay Packers (is the current President of the NFL Alumni)

  • Lee Paige – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Goal: to educate about the power of the internet and the technology that taps into it; to encourage and inspire through providing gift bags with essentials for families.

Rain Contingency: In the event of rain the distribution of goods will be done from inside the neighboring church – 3 doors down the road from the space we have planned to do the outreach. It is big enough for what is needed if it rains.


10:15   Meet at the Gaylord Palms Lobby

10:30   Bus Departure from Gaylord Palms.

11:00   Arrival at One Heart, sign-in, welcome introductions, load and prep -Lunch will be available for volunteers

12:30   Drive to site and off load everything and set up – We will park in the front of the property and unload the food, clothing, crafts, tables and all other supplies and set up.

1pm – 3pm  Technology Tutorials (5 teachers – 4 appts each)

1pm    Lunch served to the community – we will set up like a buffet style lunch with tables – we have volunteers making food that will need to be purchased (we are looking for sponsors for the food).  (chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls and dessert. Iced tea and water will come from Starbucks (donated).

1:15 – 1:45       Brandon Siler (NFL player) speaking – We have 5 – 8 other former NFL players that will be with us as well to mingle and make relationships.

2:00 – 3:00       Actual distribution of goods- clothing and shoes and hygiene items (brand new shoes will be delivered to One Heart next week)

1:30 – 3:30       20 min technology/iPad/Computer tutorials with 10min transitions over a 2 hour block (20 smart devices)

2:30 – 3:30      Youth Activity – arts and crafts and book signing form former NFL player Mike Attardi. Arts and crafts will be donated.

3:30 – 4:00       Breakdown/Clean Up

4:00                Bus departs for Gaylord Hotel


Activity     Project Tasks
Set up set up tables for distribution; setting up of tutorial stations ( 5stations – 20 volunteers 1 or 2 hr. blocks)
Bag Prep and Packing fill gift bags with toiletries and essentials
Speaker Brandon Siler: Evans High School Orlando FL,  – University of Florida (Gator) 2007 National Champions – NFL Pro Player for 6 years
Distribution providing gift bags and food as participants come through
Tutorials Tutorials will include- how to use basic features of the device; finding and connecting to Wi-Fi; finding and connecting to free Wi-Fi; the most effective ways to use search engines to find resources and opportunities(community programs/ job boards); how to down load applications; establishing your own email account;
Youth Activity Hands on activity sponsored by Home Depot that will allow volunteers to share and connect with children
