Each year, the NFL Alumni honors its own at the Evening With
the Legends Dinner. Held during the NFL Alumni’s Annual Meeting, the Evening With
the Legends Dinner honors winners and inducts new members into the NFL Alumni’s

Since 1978, the NFL Alumni has recognized 67 Order of
the Leather Helmet inductees for their “substantial contributions to professional
football.” Since 1981, the NFL Alumni has presented Career Achievement Awards to
30 former players for “accomplishments on and off the field that reflect the higher
values promoted by the organization.” |

On April 18, 2008, the NFL Alumni inducted Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson and John Madden and San Diego Chargers owner Alex G. Spanos into the Order of the Leather Helmet. |
