Former Boston Patriots tight end Larry Eisenhauer, who was a member of the 1963 team that played in the AFL championship game, captained a fivesome that won the 2010 New England Chapter NFL Alumni Charity Golf Classic held yesterday at Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover, Mass. Eisenhauer and his team beat out a field of 30 other five-man teams captained by NFL alumni who included Earl Morrall, Babe Parilli, Steve Grogan, Gino Cappelletti, Joe Andruzzi and Tim Fox.
The New England Chapter tournament was one of 23 tournaments to be held nationwide as part of the 2010 NFL Alumni Charity Golf Tour. Each stop on the tour features an 18-hole scramble event with five-man teams captained by NFL Alumni members.
Net proceeds from each NFL Alumni tournament are donated to charity. The New England Chapter has chosen the Cerebral Palsy, Ron Burton Training Village, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, UMDF (mitochondrial disease), Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Foundation to receive proceeds from its 2010 tournament.
Eisenhauer, a Boston College standout, was drafted by the AFL’s Boston Patriots in 1961. He played nine NFL seasons (1961-69) and earned AFL All-Star honors four times (1962-62, 1966).
By winning the New England Chapter tournament, Eisenhauer and his team won an all-expense paid trip to the NFL Alumni's Super Bowl of Golf (SBOG) XXXI, to be held in April 2011 at PGA Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. His team will compete for the mythic national championship against winning teams from each stop on the 2010 NFL Alumni Charity Golf Tour.
